On Tuesday, the official site for the San-X 'Sumikko Gurashi' franchise released the full trailer and main visual for Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Sora no Ōkoku to Futari no Ko (The Sky Kingdom and the Two Children), which is the fourth film in the series. In the trailer, it is announced that Kaela Kimura will sing the theme song "Kimi no Kasa" (Your Umbrella) for the movie.

Naomi Iwata is directing the fourth film at Fanworks. Takashi Sumita is returning as the scriptwriter from the first and third Sumikko Gurashi films. Kaori Hino is also returning as art director from the first and third films.
Asmik Ace, Inc. is distributing the film.
The new film will open on October 31.
In 2012, the popular anime series "Sumikko Gurashi" introduced viewers to five main characters who were initially portrayed as somewhat gloomy individuals who preferred staying in seclusion. These characters include "Shirokuma," a polar bear who is sensitive to cold temperatures; "Penguin?" (with a question mark in its name), a penguin who is uncertain about its own identity; "Tonkatsu," a piece of pork cutlet that was left uneaten; "Neko," a shy cat; and "Tokage," who conceals his true nature as one of the last dinosaurs.
In Japan, the first anime movie called "Sumikkogurashi - Good to be in the corner" was released in November 2019. It eventually sold over 1.2 million tickets and made around US$12.8 million at the box office as of February 2020. This movie received the Best Animation of the Year award at the 29th Annual Japan Movie Critics Awards in June 2020.
The second movie of Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Aoi Tsukiyo no Mahō no Ko (The Magical Child of the Blue Moonlit Night) was launched in Japan in November 2021. It attracted around 200,000 viewers in its first three days and generated approximately 250 million yen (around US$2.22 million) in revenue.
In November of 2023, the third anime film of the Eiga Sumikko Gurashi franchise was released in Japan. During its first three days in theaters, it sold 192,300 tickets for a total of 242,553,320 yen (approximately US$1.63 million in current conversion).
In October 2023, the franchise launched its inaugural TV anime series which aired its premiere episode. In August to September 2024, a puppet musical was held in Tokyo. Additionally, a new series of anime shorts called Sumikko Gurashi: Koko ga Ochitsukun Desu (This Is Where I Relax) was introduced on April 4 as part of the NTV network's ZIP! morning variety program's "ZIP! 1-Minute Anime" segment.
